Hi guy's

While my gearbox was out I found the rear bush which holds the rear of the gear selector secure was totally collapsed or at least missing all the rubber and only had the inner steel tube rattling around in a larger outside steel tube.

I ordered a new bush.   How on earth is it possible to remove the outer steel tube from the alloy diff housing.  It looks like it is factory pressed and never to be separated again?

Thanks Brad

Find something that is bigger than the tube but slammer than the hole in the alloy and pull it out.

Today was mainly trying to take out the blower motor. I have seen some bodges before but ......

Engine wise pulled out the metalastic bush for the gear change. New one should be here next week. The ones I thought were for are too big.
Here is a how to get the bush out.

Then it was onto cleaning out the insides of the manifold. Stripping and cleaning the carb as the jet was stuck.

Make a little puller from a washer, tube and threaded bar.Don't be tempted to hit it as the casting easily breaks off.Nice little project, you could use a suitable socket instead of tube.have fun,Steve..

Look on youtube - Guessworks has a video where he collapses the tube through the gap in the rear of the housing.  Once you've collapsed it at either end it is easy to drift out.

You'll need to fashion up a puller like Nick shows to put the new one in.  Grind a slight chamfer on one end of the new bush to lead it in. And make sure your puller acts on the outer tube, not the inner or you will shear the rubber.

Thanks guy's and inspector gadget Nick  with his special tools.  I was hoping I bought the wrong bush and their would be an undersize version.

I'll see what I can fabricate up?

Cheers Brad

This is how I removed mine, I found using a puller just pulled the guts out, then I used a chisel to collapse the remaining outer sleeve, I hit it with a little lubricant and then tapped it out after that. I was being careful to not hit the housing too hard though cause it seemed like it might be easy to break. new one installed a lot easier than I thought it would using a bolt and a socket to pull/push it in.

Thanks Nick,

Your gadget worked a trick.  I just loaded up the bolt with extra washers the further it went in because my bolt was pretty short.

It went in even easier just losing the socket and using a couple of big flat nuts.

Thank you  Brad
