Ok, so i was driving along as usual when i started to smell something funny. I soon realised it was water and my passenger told me there was steam. At this point the car lost all power and died. I got out to find water all over the place. Rang the RAC, they came, told me it was a knackered radiator and brought it back home. This morning when i looked i found that its not the radiator its the by-pass hose. But the car still wouldn't start even when i put water in. I have replaced the hose now and thats all sorted but the car still won't start. It turns over but it doesnt seem to fire. I'm thinking the car has probably overheated when the water leaked out and the cylinder head gasket has buggared. Am i right or am i wrong? Any ideas?

Thanks, Alex

How hot did the car get and how much water did you lose?

Could be head gasket failure; water may be sitting on top of the pistons stopping it from firing.

Also what was this funny smell? Tee hee...

No idea how hot it got. But hot enough to make it stop!

The smell was the water with the anti-freeze. Yuk!

Disconnect coil lead and take out the plugs and turn over the engine to clear it. It should still run even with a blowen head gasket but It will run lumpy.
