Hi Everyone,

My friend and I have two SPI Minis and are currently thinking about obtaining a replacement ECU in case one of one of ours would fail in the future. Both Minis are 63 hp (high compression) but while my friends is a 1994 without immobiliser, mine is a 1995 with immobiliser.

The question is, could we use the same replacement ECU and if so would that need to be a MNE101070 (without immobilizer) or a MNE101170 (with immobilizer)?

Any help is appreciated here.

Thank you very much

I have a 1994 Japanese SPI Mini Cooper that came with the MNE101070 and no alarm whatsoever. The ECU had an issue that it would drain the battery over several days due to leaving a relay energized after the engine was turned off. The person that sold the car to me provided me with an MNE101170 but the engine would not run with it. I had that ECU shipped to the UK for refurbishment and removal of the immobiliser code and that is what I have been using since. So, I think that the MNE101070 or the MNE101170 uncoded should work with either car.

If they are both U.K. spec cars then using MNE101070 ECU will work in both. Or as xrocketengineer comments above get MNE101170 and get the coding which looks for the immobiliser 5AS code changed.

Hi Everyone,

I have found an older style ECU with two connectors and wonder what connections the second connector provides and if it would be possible to use this ECU in a 'single connector car' as an emergency replacement.

As always, your input is highly appreciated.

It depends which model it is, there are several models of MEMS. Some not for Mini.
