Spot Weld Drill Bits

Best Answer Stu1961 , 02 June 2021 - 09:13 PM

Wurth are another quality manufacturer, use them in 6 and 8mm, the unbranded ones sold on the likes of eBay are garbage. The way you use them is important to, keep the drill speed slow but make the bit work hard by applying plenty of pressure this way little heat is generated and the bits will last ages.

I have read where some spot weld drill bits are better than others. If I only had a few to do I really wouldn't worry about it, but I have more than my fair share to do. Any recommendations on either type of bit or manufacturer, Many thanks group.

I use 8mm Dormer spot weld drill bits. https://www.paignton...-bit-8mm-x-79mm

If you centre punch the spot weld and add a few drops of oil they last really well and can be sharpened with a fine stone on a bench grinder.

I second that one. The springloaded are prone to break. They are a fiddle. The Dormer 8mm are great. You can press hard on them without failing. I've thrown the spring loaded ones aside..

Having used both, as I could not find any of the Dormer type ones, they are both rather different to use. But both work. I will keep on with the spring loaded ones for now as I have not killed them. But the Dormer type I do like.
