I have just fitted a Mounteney steering wheel boss and new wheel.

haven't investigated yet but since fitting I have no indicator cancel and possibly no steering lock.

Have I missed something?

I can't see why the steering lock wouldn't engage. I don't think the Mountney bosses have the bit to cancel the indicator, I machined my own up to screw to it.

Thanks Alex. Nice bit of design and machining.

Actually I'm wrong - the lock probably does work apologies.

So that's a bit of a pain - the mini-specific Mounteney boss doesn't maintain the cancel function. I hadn't thought about it.

I'll have to see if I can make something up like yours.

If anyone makes these collars up I'd be interested.

Some interesting info here which I should have looked at earlier-

Indicator Self Cancelling - Problems, Questions and Technical - The Mini Forum

From memory there was a small pin which came with my boss kit.I didn't realise what it was so this might be the solution. - if I can still find it that is.

Otherwise I might try the drill and tap method in the conversation above.

If it works I'll post it here.

The Mountney bosses should come with two roll pins as you said, they go in the bottom and do the self cancelling. As for the steering lock that shouldn't be boss related unless you've had the steering column apart

Most after market wheels I've seen come with Roll Pins fitted or have holes drilled in the back of the boss for such pins.

Another option here is to fit a hose clamp over the cancelling collar, to clamp it to the column. Of course, it needs to be aligned to the right position to start with.

If you have the access to a mill or lathe ( or a 3d printer could be strong enough) you could make similar to what I've made but instead of attaching it to the steering wheel have 2 grub screws that lock onto the column. Pm me if you need a hand with it

My original steering column had a small indicator reset pin screwed in a couple of inches from the top. I replaced my column because the splines were worn, and the new one came with a note from MiniSpare to drill and tap the column if the pin is required. I suspect that the frequent changes of column stalks throughout the years has required different methods of resetting the indicator stalk.

Well, it is a '85 Mayfair, but I got it at a good price as it was a jumble of parts from right across the decades, including an A+ Metro engine. It does sometimes make hard work of buying parts though. Still, it does allow me to make any mods I like without having to worry that I am ruining a classic.
