Hi all.
92 SPI Cooper converted to carb on a Hif44.
Now before being laid up for the winter break (and missing the sun in April and kept it in with the rain in May) anyway.
Ran fine when parked up in sept, been started a few times during this and moved back and forth with the gears.

So got it out today for first run, during lay up changed oil and thats about it. Started fine on choke but not long after driving around estate started to get the shake. Put some revs and seemed okay, went to go out on main and started misfiring and wanting to die off. Did a short drive and limped home.

Question before going into it, could it be bad fuel? First destination was to be fuel station but decided back home.

Have since got a gallon and put it in. While it’s sitting with choke out vacuum garage reading in drive where as before during normal start ups sitting on idle as normal.

Thoughts before start through ignition and or vacuum leaks.

O and the only change since last turn on and up to temp is my two year old has been “playing” in it and defo the choke has been pulled out more than once!!

So based on the vacuum positioning and also the popping and banging under load I think it’s either fuel filter (low fuel sucking crap in) or fuel sitting in carb has gummed up and blocking flow.

As it starts up fine but doesn’t tick over nicely or load basically feels like it’s going to die that’s my thoughts.

Other options or opinions welcome and also use of carb cleaner being sprayed in to try and dislodge.

To close this one out. Appears it was coil that was at fault, also changed plus from NGK 7’s to 6’s. Will see if the sooty look is to mix or the 7’s being too cold
