5,7 or 8 port?
Stroked?
Turbo’d or supercharged?
Straight cut box and drops?
4 or 5 speed?
Cam?
Carb or injection?
Opinions please.

Save a little more and get a supercharged Vetechbusa motor.

If you're not building it to a particular track class, and with that budget I'd almost go with a full engine swap like a Honda B series. A near standard engine will give you plenty of power, reliability and road manners...

Gears 4 is sufficient.
Old school cage italian job style down centre window...

What every you go for it has to have injection and electronic ignition. Both fully mappable.

Oh dear Timmy - not much A series excitement there mate.
I’d never fit a Honda engine in a mini, I’d buy a Honda.
A near standard engine is like a snail. My 1330 97bhp engine is fine on the roads but dull on track.
I’m looking to really push the boundaries here. I’m nearly 50 so still have some get up and go before I retire into an old 998 :)

If I had that sort of budget and was building it myself I would be looking at
£3800 MED multiwed crankshaft kit
£2022 Specialist Componets 5 port injection
£1100 A really nice head
£210 Russell Engineering RE13PP
£360 Forged 1.4:1 rockers
£720 Mini Spares heavy duty helical gear set
£750 Quaife ATB
£8962 total leaves room for machining + bearings but might be a bit tight depending on if you can carry your current clutch and flywheel over but it’s what I’d go with.

No fancy cranks, rods or heads needed. A decent ignition only ECU and a single HIF44 would keep it simple, easy to tune and reliable.

Well to be fair you’d left your criteria a bit loose!

Are you going to be using the engine in a round nose body? Are you happy to cut holes to fit turbos/intercoolers/twin cap heads/throttle bodies/carbs? That will limit your choice too
