I have a set of de Tomaso specials 12 x 5 with 165/60 tires fitted.

The tires protrude out from standard plastic wheel arches by around 5-7 mm on front only - rear is fine (this is not ok for Austrian TÜV)

I need to find some new arches but do not want to go crazy and have to fit spacers to make the wheel s look good.

I have looked at the wheel arch directory that is pinned but i cannot work out if group 2 arches are wider then the standard plastic arches.

So can anybody tell me if the group 2 arches are wider than the standard arches and by how much?

Thanks Jason

Hello,

I think the Group2 arches are about the same width as standard plastic ones. I should check tough, but I'm not at home at the moment...

Cheers

Gilles

Is your TUV an annual test? I'd be inclined to have it tested on standard wheels then put the other ones back on, it's only 7mm, or are the rules so strict that you could get pulled over for using them?

The problem is the wheel sizes have to be registered on the cars technical documentation and the 2 wheels are different sizes and therefore easy for the police to see the differences.

Thought about adding some strip to the existing arches to make them cover the tyre tread where needed.

or would that fall under the not original so not permitted.

I was thinking that also but have not come up with an idea yet
Plus the 12 x 5 wheels do not have an ET stamped on them, so need to get an approved engineer to certify them for tuv
It's a nightmare!!!!!

ET is only the Einpresstiefe which you can measure yourself.

but the KBE will be harder. How is your German? The https://www.mini-forum.de/forum/  may be a better point for you as many of them have had similar issues and found the paperwork to fix it.

you may also be able to have the wheels machined so that they sit further into the arch.

I have measured the ET and this is 28.
But cannot just tell the guy at the Tüv this I need something certified by an approved engineer.
I can get this done but not much point at the moment until I get arches that fit the wheels then I can get the wheels added to the technical documents
But thanks for the information I will have a look at the German forum a d see if anyone has got the technical details for the wheels
