I tried installing one of the KAD Quick shifter, the latest type, and I couldn't get into 3rd or 4th gear. The shifter felt really really stiff on lateral movement from 2nd to 3rd. I was rocking the whole shifter box trying to find 3rd gear...
The regular shifter is buttery smooth, but really long throw. How do I trouble shoot this?

I will be replacing the roll pins first, but is there any other factor I need to take into consideration?

Most likely you are just trying to move it to far. The Gates are stupid close.

There maybe a couple of adjustments needed, but first, take the bottom plate off the shifter housing and try it like that.

I have a KAD gearstick on my rod box. I ended up taking some material out of the alu housing where he original ball sits to find all gears

I found that a simple strap from the top of one of the rubber mounts to the bottom of the other, stiffened up the side to side location, improving movement between 2nd and 3rd.

Had mine fitted for a few years now and it works well, but do remember it being stiff to move when first fitted so I relieved the nylon ball on the bottom of the stick a small amount at a time with a file till it was smooth

I have been trying to undo the knurled collar, it’s hella tight. Does it actually control the stiffness of the shifter or is it there just to secure the nylon ball?

Grease in the side nipple and work it a few times,
It'll loosen up a bit :-)

No don't think the ring adds to stiffness, when I assembled it the ball was a tight fit in the alloy cup on a well used housing so relieved the ball instead of the cup. Would suggest as some one else has try it with the bottom plate removed so it easier to see and feel what is happening good luck

Hi people, so I finally had the time to troubleshoot the QuickShift.

1- I removed completely the rod change box and replaced the rubber mounts that attached to the body of the car.
2- I reinforced the bushing that attaches the steady rod from the box to the transmission. It was a bit chewed up (the rubber that is sandwhiced) causing a bit of play.
3 - I also installed the quickshift outside the car making sure of all clearances were ok inside the box and bottom plate. Had to play a bit with this because the bottom of the quickshift was indeed touching the bottom plate of the box. I made sure I could move the shifter in every direction before putting it back onto the car.

4 - I installed the minispares slick shift bias barrel, it really pushes the shifter towards 3rd gear, so from 2nd to 3rd there is no guessing. I just push forward the shifter and its perfectly aligned to get into 3rd. When getting into 1st, you can really feel the spring's tension like in a modern car. It is a bit stiff for now, but I guess it will loosen up with time.

Very nice shifter indeed when you get it to work properly.

Thank you all for the help!
