If you're still unable to get it off, I personally find it easier to undo the manifold nuts and remove the whole thing with the manifold included.

What manifold do you have?
As Chris1992 says - Probably easier to remove it with carb attached.

You can use two nuts locked together and remove the manifold studs so it will clear.

If you're still unable to get it off, I personally find it easier to undo the manifold nuts and remove the whole thing with the manifold included.
Only any good if he has separate inlet and exhaust manifolds though. otherwise you're into disconnecting the exhaust too

Not sure if you're trying to remove carb & inlet manifold together?
You can use two nuts locked together and remove the manifold studs so it will clear.
Take studs out as above

Ah yeah that's a good point actually. I've never owned a mini with the original intake/exhaust combo manifold so I sometimes forget they exist!
