Hi folks,

I’ve been looking at which dash to go with for my ‘92 City E rebuild and I’ve noticed that the Rover 3 clock behind wheel dashes have the radio and the clock off centre (left) from the switch panel which really plays havoc with my OCD!

Just wondering if anyone has seen any 3 clock dashboards with the radio and the clock in the centre in line with the switch panel or whether I will have to make my own?!

Cheers in advance!

I don't think you can win. If you moved the instruments over, to centralise the radio, they'd no longer be centred behind the steering wheel.

If you really must, perhaps you can find a smaller radio for a motorcycle or boat???

Another option you can take is to fit a central console kit that is fitted under the heater and install your radio there.

I had a similar issue so made my own. I brought a blank dash and cut my own holes.

Is yours a 2-clock or a 3-clock pod? With a 2-clock pod this will be a very good option, but I'd think with a 3-clock pod space would be much tighter.

Its a 2 clock setup. I never measured it up for a 3 clock so not sure how tight it would be.

Like the dash/layout - very tidy - are they smiths speedo and tachometer or would you mind telling us the make as they look really clean.

Is that a 6 switch centre panel?

Not that I need one but just curious - assume it was custom made, also assume you don't have choke and heater controls in the conventional places (can't quite make it out from the pic)  otherwise the 6 switches would probably be too wide? Unless you've done something really clever/cool and extended the hole in the bottom dash rail and made the custom switch panel wider?

It looks like the aftermarket dashboards from Optimise Automotive have the radio mounted centrally even on their 3 clock version - https://www.optimise...utomotive.com/

Yes it's an optimise blank dash which I machined to take isspro guages, and radio etc.

They are recessed into the dash so only half the bezel shows.

The switch panel is a standard panel with the 5 holes converted to just one long slot. 6 switches then fit snuggly next to each other.

No choke or heater control. I removed these and fitted stainless flush fixings.

Thanks for your replies everyone, really appreciate it!  Your dash looks awesome stoneface, like you I am thinking of ditching the fresh air vents in favour of using the windows then hiding some small tweeters in there, might allow enough space for the 3 clocks, I’ll mock it up with cardboard first to see if I can see ‘em!

Alternatively I wouldn’t mind a standard dash but only if they didn’t have the filled radio cut out, does anyone know if anyone sells them without the filled cutout?

Cheers folks!

Yeah, we do...

Classic_Mini_MPi_Interior_-_Tan_Leather_

It makes such a difference to the interior and I've never understood why everyone else (including Rover from the factory) offsets the dashboard as it looks terrible.

Before the offset dials were introduced the whole thing of what made the Mini interior look so great was the symmetry of the central speedo binnacles. Why the Mini design studios completely overlooked that (probably because Sir Alec was long gone and the guys who updated the Mini design were the same blind squad that designed  abominations such as the Austin Princess and Rover Metro) I'll never understand.

As you can tell from my little rant, it really annoys me - it's just so lazy to not have noticed such an obvious design characteristic.

Anyway, yeah, we offer centralised dashboards.

Kind regards,
Andy @ Optimise Automotive

I guess it just stemmed from giving the 1275GT its rev counter as an add on to the clubby instruments & nobody thought to alter it even when they all had 3 clocks?
