Hi all.

I am hoping someone out there is able to tell me how to recognise an A+ gearbox against an A gearbox.

 

I have a 1980 gt and it has an A+ block but a pre verto clutch. I am now trying to identify the rod change gearbox and find out which one it is (A or A+) without removing the box and checking the gears.

 

can anyone tell me if there are any distinguishing features that would help me?

If you look on the bulkhead side of the clutch housing you'll find a group of 3 bolt holes that are for a Metro engine mounting. 

 

They were all Pre Verto clutches when the A+ was first introduced, so don't be put of by that.

 

Expect you'll find more info from the engine number, it it's all original - check out Guessworks

Hi, will I need to remove the engine to see the marking or is it visible without removing the engine/gearbox and when you say:

Are you looking from the front of the car?

It's marked just behind the oil filter

Or - just for another in the mix - a DAM4818.

 

The Verto Clutches didn't come in until about  84 - 85 from memory.
