When I first rebuilt my 1293 I noticed that the new duplex chain was more loose than I thought it should be. In order to remove any possible cause of a repeat of my subsequent crank bearing issue I'd like to remove this slack. Does anyone in the UK offer oversized sprockets?(I see MiniMania offer various sizes but quite expensive)

The over-size sprockets has me curious. Do you have a link ?

I'm not sure if you did so, however, when fitting a new Chain, it's also necessary to fit new Sprockets too.

Yes - it was the Minispares duplex kit - I presume the block has been line bored at some point without keeping the centres at the same distance

Use a tensioner

the problem is that there isn't a made-for-purpose duplex tensioner and I've heard that the simplex one's pads can quickly wear on a duplex chain so I'd rather solve the issue once and for all.

Yes, which means high postage costs and then you have to fit it the other way up!

There are plenty of minis out there using a tensioner on duplex, including mine. They will naturally wear a groove in the middle, however the pad will work on both parts of the chain :) The other option is to remove the duplex and replace with an IWIS simplex.

I'd try a different kit, I sent back a mini spares kit that wasn't fit for purpose for another reason. I then got the MED duplex kit I had no problems, I also noticed the chain on the MED having no slack when the mini spares chain did.

The oversized sprockets I have to say, concern me, not in a big way, but in order to 'over-size' them, the diameter of one of both sprockets is obviously increased and so the pitch between Sprocket Teeth would also be bigger, this would have to lead to a much quicker wear rate of the assembly and regardless the brand of chain, premature stretch. Noted on the Rollmater website they do state that 'oversize Isws Chains aren't available'. I'm not sure these would be a good idea,

I've been running Duplex Chains and the Simplex Tensioner (original Leyland / Rover ones) in many many Cars now over the past 35 odd years now and would be well over 500 000 km collectively, with the longest running one having done circa 200 000 km + (and seen 3 x engine rebuilds). I'm yet to have any trouble with any and I'm yet to replace one.

Mine came with the wrong chain .. might be a problem at the suppliers and MS still have some in the stores.

Probably should have added they sent the correct chain immediately after I contacted them.
