I'm still running single leading shoe drums on my '63 mk1. Braking is 'gradual' plenty of planning ahead required. Having said that it's generally pottering about at not much more than 50 mph. It's still got all its original features, narrow tail crank, coil spring clutch, dynamo, positive earth etc, I don't want to start modifying it although better brakes would be an asset.

How come you've stayed with positive earth?

If you are going to convert a '62 Mini into electric, go for the 8.4" discs and wheels. Also consider fitting airbags and a park assistant system.

Elon says he's got all that waiting for me

If you are on drums at the moment, you will need swivel hubs aswell, look for a drum to disc conversion that will contain all the parts you will need.

Shooter

When you say swivel hubs, that's the same as uprights?  Like they're mentioning in the description here?

Cooper "S" drum to disc conversion kits are available from Mini specialists.

You basically need everything from the ball joints & driveshafts outwards. It'll widen the track a bit: the rear drums have built in spacers when discs are fitted.

8.4" discs were fitted to all Minis from the mid 80's - along with 12 inch wheels. There are some common components.

It's a lot of metal so shipping costs will be a factor, but checkout our TMF+ membership for a discount.

About how far outward will the wheels be pushed?

worth bearing in mind the increase in width of the disk hubs can be countered to a certain degree by fitting wheels with an increased offset
