Hi

Sorry for the commercial post, but i thought you might like to know that Pirelli have just made a fresh batch of the original 145/70R12 Cinturto CN54.

https://www.longston...tyres/mini.html

They are available through Mini Spares as well.

I still have the original spare wheel that`s never been used in my 1990 Cooper and it hasn`t perished :)

I'm very tempted to get a set of these on my spare set of wheels.

The 165s give substantially more grip, but also remove a bit of the light and lively feeling that i recall with the 145s... I quite fancy a trip down memory lane...

Hmm that is not the obvious blanket truth that you might think.

yes it will give greater grip in out right straight line braking. and you might get less wheels spin.

but who cares?

and anyway wheel spins are cool.

Importantly this is still an old mini, so it doesn't really give more grip in the corners, because the car still weighes the same. Well it sort of does give a bit more grip, but only up to a certain  point, when the car l;eans a little. at which it lifts part of the tread of the road then it drmatically lets go. who wants that. just go and get a differnet car.

Fat tyres are a misguided mistake made by cowards. (OK if it is a race car lwer than a snakes as with stiff spring s and different camber and caster on a race track it works. But you cant belkeive how different those cars are.

My memory of the Cinturatos is of sliding across roundabouts any time it was raining, it was a hoot and I enjoyed it, but there wasn't much grip at all.  Are these remanufactured ones likely to be better than the last ones I drove in the early 90s (which were new then) ?

Switching to Yoko 165s, as I did from about 98 onwards, was a revelation in terms of wet grip especially.  I assume it wasn't just the extra width, but also the newer technology and diferent rubber coming into play.

Think I've convinced myself to try them :)

Never really liked the cinturatos that came on a 95 Sprite that I bought at 6 months old, didn't have it long enough to wear them out though, had to change it for a bigger more sensible car (Peugeot 405 diesel) and that was the end of my daily mini driving. Got a mk1 now that I put back onto 520 x 10 crossplies, now there is a fun tyre, pathetic grip at most speeds over about 10 mph, wet roads and roundabouts are hilarious.

Bought a set of these today...couldn't help me sen! Got 165 Yoko's on it at the mo, but was always considering to put originals back on when the Yoko's were worn. So for the moment will need to put them on ice and store them properly.

I'm still on 145/70R12s but sadly replaced all four last summer! I'd have waited if I'd known these were coming...

Gold

Amazes me how people come on here commenting when it’s blatant they have no mini experience, just from what they’ve seen on the internet.

It's great that some more original parts are back in the fold.

I also just want to put it on the table to keep in mind that tyres only have a usable life of 7 years, as after that the rubber gets quite hard and then further down the line, the rubber starts to crack.

Now I'm off in a cloud of figure 8's,,,,,, :D

Hi Team

Do you know what 10" radial tyres the original Mini Cooper and Cooper S fitted?

I know in the early 60s generally Mini fitted 520-10 Crossply.

I'm pretty sure that later Mini fitted 145R10 Radials. and i think the SP Sport Aquajet came out in 1968. But what radial tyres did the early pre 68 cars fit?

As best as I can find out, the SP44 was the first radial used. Prior to that, it was the C41 and CW44 - both of which are cross plies.

Cooperman I'm sure could fill in a few gaps here.
