Hello

1993 L reg SPI Cooper, manual

I bought and fitted a cheaper carpet set in 2020
I thought I could live with it
I was wrong
It’s ruddy awful

I’m now looking for a best quality carpet set
I’ve looked at Newton Commercial, Mini Sport and Mini Spares online

Newton and Mini Sport show an almost identical photo and share their listing descriptions almost word for word

The Mini Spares listing is uncharacteristiccllly poor
A pretty useless photo and not much of a description

Does anyone know if they’re all the same thing, being sold by different companies?

Or is their a clear “best” in terms of quality and fit?

Some other supplier that I haven’t looked at?

I only want to do this one more time!

Living and learning
Slowly

Thanks

Elwyn

Pretty sure they all sell the same sets from Newton, as far as I'm aware (someone correct me if I'm wrong), Newton are the only company that manufacture moulded carpets for Minis. Minispares have just started selling the MPI one-piece moulded carpets which are being made by Newtons as well.

Thanks.

Mini Spares sells them cheaper than Newton

What an odd world

Anyone fitted a Newton moulded carpet set?

Do they fit?
Are they well made?

I fit one in mine, came from Minispares but made by newton. Fits really well, although the carpet feels a little thin, but strong. Has some thin foam backing with locations of where holes should be punctured for seatbelts and such; those holes did not line up with my shell, so take note when doing those.

What year / model car did you fit yours in?

I've just ordered a carpet for my Elf. My advice would be to ask Newton to send you a sample of their carpet first, personally I was disappointed with the one they sent me, probably hard wearing but thin and short piled.  Didn't feel luxurious enough for my Elf in my opinion.  In the end I've ordered with Coverdales as I much preferred the samples they sent, and the best colour match was thankfully in the cheapest carpet.  Added bonus was that they are local to me and are used regularly by our local mini restoration shop. Carpets aren't molded but with the square tunnel I see that as less of an issue than with my round one.  Can't comment on fit as I only ordered the other day and haven't had it yet.

Unfortunately, whereas my Riley carpet was significantly cheaper than NC, the later Mini carpet isn't, must be a reason for it.

I've looked at Coverdales too

100% man-made or 80% wool

Not far from me

Very close in fact

80% wool...I'd be tempted to have a doormat to wipe my feet before getting in!

That's the other reason I chose Coveradle's they do mats to match their all carpets. NC only seem to do mats in black & grey, what's the point of spending £200+ on a red carpet for my Elf then covering 90% with black mats? Front mats are a must for me.

Did you go for the 100% man made or the 80% wool option?

Man made as that was the nearest colour match to my seats.  For my Elf that worked out far cheaper, £106, as opposed to £189 or £220 ish for their wool carpets. You don't seem to get that savings with the Mk4 onwards.

Sorry to be a pest, but in an earlier message, you said your local mini specialist uses Coverdales' carpets

Is that specialist in Padiham?

Hi Elwyn,  No it wasn't.  I'll pm who it was, seems unfair to put their name against a recommendation in case Coverdale then let someone down.
