My engine runs like a pig, replaced plugs,point& condenser. Cleaned out carburettor and replaced needle as it was slightly bent.checked timing that's all ok. Changed head some time ago but haven't really run it since, nead to check compression. Sometimes it starts sometimes it don't. When it does run it want tick over smoothly it hunts and the whole car vibrate s. Any ideas please.

Add checking for are leaks around the carb and manifold joints to your list, they can wreak havoc on mixtures and running

Check butterfly in the carb is closing completely

I’d check the plugs are still good, gaps are ok, leads are on in the right order

What kind of mileage are we talking here and what's been done to it? and a secondary why was the head replaced and with what?   From very brief details given I'd venture timing is out and / or distributor knackered

I've just edited the title of the thread to better reflect the subject.

Replaced head because it had cracked,black water all up the boot but run ok. It's been of the road for 7 years shut up in a garage. Thought it was time to get it back on the road again. Done all the normal things. New petrol point plugs timing oil and filter. Going to do a compression test weekend.

Hi all found advance diagram split. Eventually found a replacement seems to be running a lot better. At some point need to thrash it down the road. Thanks for all the help.
