Hi All,

I have just got my mini back on the road and MOT’d after about 5 years of standing in the garage. It now has an issue with the gear selection where it can be driving fine one minute then suddenly I won’t be able to select 4th gear. Once this happens it can then become difficult to get 3rd or any gears at all. If I stop the car and set off again the issue can go away for a while. It’s very random. The gears don’t crunch it just feels like the gearstick is pushing against something solid.
I replaced the engine/gearbox for a 1275 unit about 10 years ago and ever since the selection has always been very stiff to get second and fourth gears but never impossible.

I am hoping to take the car to the Silverstone classic next weekend so would love to find a quick fix as I don’t have time to get the gearbox out. Does anybody have any suggestions of where to start?

Update:

I have removed the rod change assembly and found that both the rod and the bush in the selector housing are seriously worn, I think this could be the issue.

It doesn’t look like these bushes are available separately so I may need a complete new housing and rod. Does anybody know of anywhere that offers reconditioned assemblies or could replace the bushes?
