Hi everyone

Wondered if you could help me with something.

I've had my mini for a few months now and i'm needing some new tyres for the front. I've had quotes for the runflats to replace the ones i have at the minute and they do cost a canny fortune. I have been told to consider getting normal tyres for them but i'm a bit unsure specially considering i haven't a spare.

What does everyone think of the runflats are they any good or will i just be wasting my money.

if it was me i would be getting some of that tyre foam stuff (the emergency inflator doobree), sodding off the run flats, and getting normal tyres. is this on a new mini? haven't heard of an old mini with run flats

Yeah its on a newish cooper s, 2005 model

Stick with runflats safer in the long run just check pressures every week.That tyre foams C**p doesnt work on big holes.

As for the runflats, ditch 'em! they are not the best for driving and handling abilities. Also I know exactly what you mean about the lack of a spare wheel, I own an 02 BMW Cooper and have had 3 flats and the bottle of BMW / MINI branded tyre-weld type goop provided in the tool kit, does NOTHING for a inch wide bit of metal in the sidewall !. :'(

What bright spark at BMW decided to make the "spare" wheel an expensive optional extra?? >

Hello same. Another northern lad i see. Seen your post on the north east mini club also.

I think if you want the added benefit of the run flats then they are worth the price. Else i would go for some top brand tyres for better grip.

from what i can remember the early 1275 GT's came with dunlop run flats on a special rim

Yep, optional Denovo run flats, and from what I've heard the reason they could run flat was that they felt like they were filled with concrete due to the stiff sidewall, and wore out very quickly (I've heard talk of 600 miles!).

Just to correct a couple of people. This is not an original mini ONLY forum, its just that we have a limited number of members with a BINI, so the knowledge base isn't too fantastic.

Sorry to say it but you probably would find a much more helpful response on the mini2 forum linked to above.

Just to add my advice. I won't be going with a spare wheel in my mini (original) due to weight, I'll have some of that foam or gel stuff that is meant to block smallish holes, and I may just carry a inner tube (I'll be running on split rims) with me as well, but this is an option for you.

yeah the 1275gts came with denovo run flats, ive got one in my boot, makes an excellent piknik table, and also acts as a good chair on occasions, but as a wheel, id rather drill a hole in a brick, attatch it to my hub and use that as a wheel.
anyone want to buy it?

I got the impression that this was an original Mini ONLY forum a little while ago during that more recent, rather unfortunate Mini V.s Bini discussion that took place, that got slightly out of hand. my bad.
