Would there be a gasket between the upper and lower part? And maybe the gasket/seal has gone and thats where it is leaking from?
Any thoughts?

Do you mean where the jet screws in to the bottom of the carb? or where the pipe goes into the float bowl? It would help to know what carb you have and maybe a photo?

WZX1100A is a complete gasket and needle with valve
AUD3588A is just the seal

It's quite typical for HIF to leak from there. Just the O ring replacement I believe.

So presumably the 1st thing I need to do is remove the entire Carb?
Any hints or tips on the best way of doing this? It all looks a bit tight down there! Not a lot of room to work.
Once the carb is out, what is the next step?

To remove the carb
First remove the choke and throttle cables
Next is the fuel and breather pipes
Then the 4 nuts holding the carb to the inlet manifold.
Note the positioning of the abutment plate and spacer.
Hope this helps

Also - once the carb is off. Is there anything I can do to it, to like give it a bit of a refurb?

WZX1099A is a kit for 38 and 44's
This is the seal and needle valve with filter. As you have the bottom off, you should put a new valve in
Sods law it would leak in 12 months time this time from a dodgy valve

Thanks - do you have a link for the manifold gadkets that Cal refers to?
Thanks again

I assume the 4 bolts i am undoing to remove the carb are the 2 shown in the attached photo (half undone) and the 2 below these?
If so, i think the 2 at the bottom are just impossible to get at! Any hints/tips?
