Thanks everyone. The carb is off - bit of a faff getting the lower two nuts off, but got there in the end.
Have to say - I'm not looking forward to putting them back on!
Just waiting for the gaskets etc to be delivered

Hi,
Just thought I'd ask if anyone knew where to get the WZX1099A kit from currently. I've tried Mini Spares and a few others and they have been out of stock all month.
Also the WZX1099A just has a single ring for a seal, whereas the WZX1100A (which somebody suggested on this thread - although I believe that is for an SU carb, not a HIF) has 3 or 4 gaskets in the kit - is the single ring seal with the WZX1099A
ok?

Have you tried Burlen Fuel Systems, they are the owners of the SU name and supply just about everything.

Will have a look. Are Hiff and SU carbs the same - or different manufacturers/different carbs?

HIF is a Model type of an SU. There's a few models in SUs, mostly related to different eras of them.

As Moke says, the SU carb has improved over the years defining manufacture to make them the most easily accessible and repairable with simplicity - believe it or not !!
They are an easy carb to work with, and I can say all gaskets and seals readily available for repair
Early SU carbs were very brass and aluminium orientated, nowadays, they are have easily replaceable parts
HIF are just a bit of a bugger where to do the job of fitting new floats, valves and filters, you need to be able to see them, as the old SU were all up top in the float chamber.
Additionally, trying to work on a HIF on the car, and when you lose a screw, it's gone for ever, normally falls where it shouldn't and against all sods laws

Thanks so far.
So presumably the 1st thing I need to do is remove the entire Carb?
Any hints or tips on the best way of doing this? It all looks a bit tight down there! Not a lot of room to work.
Once the carb is out, what is the next step?
Depending on my mood or the amount of patience in the tank, sometimes I remove the carb/inlet as an assembly. The 4 nuts are far more easy to access and I’ve never had a leak from the manifold gasket.

Seems like they are out of stock as well
You could just replace the main bottom seal - at least that could get you out of the myer for now
