Morning all,

Does anybody know if you can fit a Mk 1 steering column cowl onto a later 90's type steering column?

The Columns are different diameters, the later type being smaller.

The Brackets on the later column I doubt will fit inside the Early Cowling, but I guess they could be cut off or bent out of the way.

The Ignition Switch / Lock would also need to be removed.

Almost anything is possible if you're prepared to spend enough time &/or money. I once managed to fit a MPI set up inside a MK3 shroud - & it only took me about 100 hours!

....but in this case fitting a Mk1 shroud on a late 90's column set up will be about as easy as fitting a hedgehog in a jam jar -without using a food blender!

The stalks won't fit inside the cowl, the mk1 shroud uses only one stalk, & you will need to remove the steering lock on a vehicle that's already far too easy to steal - you will need to inform your insurers that you've removed the steering lock just in case it is stolen (good luck with your next insurance premium).

Sorry to sound so negative but it's really a no-go unless you use a complete MK1 steering set up & even then you have to relocate some of the stalk functions & do the necessary rewiring.

I looked into this for my retro make-over- the biggest problem is the horn - the later columns aren't compatible with a central horn-push - if you want to go Mk1 you have to use an early column.
