Gear Linkage Housing Strip

be sure to start it from the lower right (as the shifter will be when fitted in the car).
Thanks for this, Spider, very helpful. Only thing you mentioned that I didn't understand was the above point. Please could you provide a bit more detail?
Thanks again
Glad it's of some help.
That above, what I was suggesting is if you're camped for space, while the Shifter Assembly is out and ready to fit, start the Roll Pin off in the Coupling, driving it in only 2 or 3 mm, then take it off the bench and fit it to the Car.
Where I was suggesting to put the Roll Pin in the Coupling is from the Right Hand Side (that is when the shifter is fitted in the car, the Right hand side). If you start the Pin off on the wrong side (the left) once you get down under you won't be able to Drift or move the Pin in as the Gearbox will be in the way.
Hope this makes sense !

Sounds like fun !
You shouldn't have any issues getting it lined up to get it out of Reverse on refitting. Before you get too far with an spanners, be sure to unplug the Reverse Light Switch.
Assuming that you are stripping the Housing, I can't think of anything here where you could go wrong, the Shift Linkage itself does have holes for Roll Pins in both ends, but they are both in the same place and same plane, so even if it was rolled and rotated (I actually do that often when rebuilding) there won't be an issue.
Fit the Coupling Sleeve on to the Shifter while it's on the Bench and if you are fitting new Roll Pins (always a good idea) and as you seem a bit cramped for space under the Car, start the Pin off in the Coupling that will end up picking up the Gearbox Shaft, also while it's on the bench, be sure to start it from the lower right (as the shifter will be when fitted in the car). Then just take a bit of care to line them up before pushing the Pin in. I've had some very tight Pins at times, I find I can get them in easier using Vice Grips and take a few bites using them than trying to swing a hammer in a confined area.
When it's all fitted up, be sure to check the operation of the Reverse Light Switch, obviously that it comes on reliably when selecting Reverse, but also check that when in 4th and then pushing the lever towards Reverse that it doesn't come on.
