Hi

I have recently acquired a complete engine/gearbox assembly and I am looking to narrow it down as to what I have actually got.

This is what I have achieved so far.

Engine: Stamped 8G57EP84002 AD (I don't know what the AD denotes) 12A497
1969-81 New or exchange Silver or Gold Seal Unit 998cc Thick Deck Pre A+ Purolator Filter (I reckon)

Gearbox: Stamped 22G1128 SM L MOWOG
4 Speed Syncro with remote Pre 73 (I reckon)

Head: 12A145(6?) I can't see this fully as the pushrod hole intersects it. 29K4 also in casting behind the thermostat. 998cc Standard head pre 73 (I reckon)

Any ideas what particular era or car this would have come from?

Can anyone shed any light on the additional AD on the engine plate? It's nothing to do with A C Dodd, I've already checked there.

It's not seized and is moving freely but will obviously need an overhaul.

Many thanks.

From that, it's just a garden variety 998 (head too) with a 4 Synchro Remote style Gearbox. They were fitted to a wide range of cars from 1968 to 1973 in that configuration, like the Mini 1000, Elf, Hornet, Clubman etc. I have no idea of it's value, but if it's a ready to fit runner, it would be quite desirable.

PS, I've had to edit your posting as we have strict rules here regarding valuations and a separate area for that.

Thanks for the replies so far. This is the engine in question.

You can see the remains of the gold paint on the rocker cover, engine plates and on the remote assembly. There are areas on the sump too but they don't show up here very well.
