Should These Holes And Bracket Be There?

Just cleaning up the cross member. It has 2 rather crude holes that were holding a bracket in the tunnel.
Can’t remember what it was doing 4 years after it’s removal.

It’s a 1275 GT.
Bracket sits behind the gear change, doesn’t touch it.

Should it be there? What’s it for?

If not needed I will let in a patch.

Never come across that before. I would say it's safe to leave it off. Certainly doesn't look factory.

Wonder if it was there to hold part of a centre console maybe? Although looks a bit too beefy for that..

Ben the bracket is under the car in the tunnel.
Looks like I have a bit more welding to do!!

In that case, I still haven't seen anything like that underneath either.

I wonder if it was added to support an exhaust?

Still not a factory thing either way.

Would like be accompanied by some chewing of the tunnel around the gearstick. It looks manufactured & as if there was something squate attached quite possibly a rubber mounting.

I’d guess at an extra exhaust bracket too.
