Pulling to the side, under acceleration & deceleration issue..

Background  - I changed my discs and shocks on the front recently. I struggled tightening the castle nut on the rebuild, I read up and bought a large flat washer, tighten the castle to torque, undid them, then fitted the tapered washer, retorque the nuts down but it was a struggle, about 255lbs according in the Haynes Manual. Popped the split pins in, job done. In trying to get the brake pedal right, I’ve bled them forever, but still have a pedal with too much travel, yesterday I was adjusting the rear brakes as that is where I think the issue is, I adjusted them, and did a small test drive, they could be better BUT….something else surfaced, on acceleration and deceleration, the car pulls to on side, to the right, then on decel, to the left back again, it’s quite severe on the steering. It’s not under braking, that fine, I haven't disturbed any of the suspension on the front, just the shocks change. I’m going to check all the bolts are tight/bearings etc but, could this be I’ve cocked up the process in torquing the driveshafts down? It didn’t do this prior to the shocks and disc refresh.

Any help or feedback would be helpful before I start pulling the front apart! Cheers Phil

Sounds like your tie rod bushes have perished.

If you can see the engine moving from side to side when the steering wheel is turned, your tower subframe (if not all other) mounts need replacement. Keep in mind that the steering rack is mounted to the body but the suspension is attached to the subframe. If the subframe moves around when driving, it will cause steering issues.

Ok back to the start.

why did you bleed the brakes?

did you bed the pads back in.

were the brakes fine before?

I had this problem once and it was a loose steering arm on the hub, a badly worn track rod end would do the same. I don't see how this happens with the list of work you did  . Was it all done in place or did you undo any balljoints?
