Well, its finally happened. This Mac guy FINALLY has a MEMS reader that doesnt require using a PC! Thank you MEMSFCR.co.uk for making all my dreams come true!! ha. Took me a bit to get a computer up to the right OS (my computers are all from work and they are slower to have us update) but I made it happen and was able to connect to the software/site last night without any issues. Its really great to be able to see it all live on a big screen vs the android phone I was running prior.

So, I have a few questions....and I'll probably have a zillion more.

1. This is a strictly web-based program, correct? To use it on the road, you will need to connect computer to a hotspot or some for of internet connection?

2. Once you connect to the car, does it automatically start recording? If you do not want to start a "run" till the car warms up lets say, should you just hit the pause button till you are ready?

3. When playing back a recorded "run" (is that the right term?), is there any way to skip ahead or back? If not, probably best to keep things on the shorter side?

4. How do you share your data and do you ever lose saved runs that are in your playback folder? I have only used this once so far so only have one link in there currently.

After these questions, I am sure to have many regarding the current health of my motor as I did receive 2 warnings: Lambda > 900mV and Lambda Reading Rich. And the fun starts!

Hi there - I’m not sure the chap who made MEMSfcr is on here much, he’s more on Facebook (the Classic Mini SPi group) but I’ve pinged him for you…

Hi, I’m the author of memsfcr. Good to hear you’re finding it useful. So,

1. the app is a local client/server application. The main application runs in the background, starts a local web server and then opens a browser page. It will run fine offline. If you’re interested I have a version that runs on an Arduino (and a raspberry pi version) that you can connect just for data logging. You can then replay the files through memsfcr.

2. yes, as soon as you connect it will start recording. You can pause until you want to start or just connect when ready. There are some advantages to recording from cold. Memsfcr will analyse the data and can indicate certain fault conditions (work in progress; so will get better as I get time to enhance it). For example it tracks warm up time, rpm, lambda etc and will try to diagnose lambda, idle, trim and vacuum faults to name a few.

3. It’s a feature that has been requested and is on the list to do. At the moment you have to play from the start. I’ll let you know when it’s ready.

4. No I’ve not lost any run data.. the filename is generated from the ECU Id and a date time stamp. The files will be in /User/username/memsfcr/logs. They are CSV files and be easily shared via email and opened in Excel / Google Sheets / Apple Numbers etc.

The faults you mentioned are warnings when the lambda readings are higher or lower than expected. It’s worth looking in the log files to see the frequency they occur. If it’s during warm up or fairly infrequent I would suggest it’s nothing to worry about.

Any issues or suggestions, please let me know.

As a final word, there are some really great and helpful people in the SPi community. There a several excellent diagnostic applications available (Leopold, James Portman and Colin do a version) for Windows and Android.

I’m more of a Mac / Linux guy and was frustrated by trying to get applications to compile and run on the Mac, so wrote my own. Memsfcr does run on Windows but Windows is not as friendly when it comes to distribution and getting drivers for the cables to work. The installation packager and code signing certificates are expensive and without these antivirus software decides that my application is a virus occasionally.

I get a lot of help, support and feedback from the above, as well as Martin Rubenstein and Roger Carpenter. Thanks and credit to these guys.

You might look at MegaLogViewer HD:

https://www.efianaly...werHD/download/

You may not need it, but I use it to review logs from Microsquirt, Specialist Components and with some adjustments RoverMEMS.

It has some search functions that are nice.

Hi tmsmini,

megalogviewer is pay-software and i do not know if it runs on mac.

And in my opinion it is hard to operate!

You may read mfcr logs with mems-rosco too, but it is windows software!

by the way: Could youcheck your links on your efi site, i think some are obsolete.

Cheers

They have a Mac version, but i am not sure the feature set is exactly the same. You are correct the interface is abit old fashioned.
You can download a limited version for free to try it. If it is not the right tool delete.
I like the search as I can look at all the data points where lambda  goes above or below a certain value, but you can do that in a spreadsheet as well.

by the way: Could youcheck your links on your efi site, i think some are obsolete.

It is probably time for the site to go away as you are correct it has not been updated or cleansed in a long time.
There are many other places for more up to date information.

Thank you the additional information/clarification. Very excited to being able to use have a one run on a Mac. After 25+ years of nothing but a using a Mac, I'm totally lost with a PC.

I havent had a chance to run it again aside from the first test where I started and let the car warm up. Very excited to see what I get as there are a few odd issues that would be amazing to finally sort!
