Hey guys I am having a constant issue with fuel leaking from where the fuel runs into the carb. It is connected with a 1/4" fuel line as suggested after a lot of reading but after not long it seems the inside diameter opens up more and no longer has a good seal. The inlet of the carb is not flared and I'm not sure if this should be or not? The hose I'm using is fuel grade but just doesn't seem to last. It's fine for a few months but I would like a longer fix than this especially dealing with fuel dripping onto a hot manifold.

On a side note in the photo is the carb vent supposed to be blocked up like that?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the float needle is not sealing and fuel is coming out of the overflow.

check float for leaks and check needle for proper closing.

I’d run a pipe from the overflow vent away to a safer discharge place and check the float valve.

My experience was that the common 1/4” fuel pipe is a little on the loose side. I found some 6mm or 7/32” fuel hose which is a nicer fit (I got in in “Goss” brand)

Those early float lids don’t have a separate overflow pipe, it’s under the little alloy plate.

The blocked pipe on the carb is used for sucking up crankcase fumes, it can stay blocked if the tune is compensated for the reduced airflow

Pop the little clip that sits at the base of the fuel inlet off, the float chamber overflow sits behind it, it's just a little hole in the casting. Connect the hose up again and run the engine, if there's petrol dribbling out of the overflow then, as has been said, the float is either stuck down or the float valve is passing.

If this is an electric fuel pump car, can this test be done with just the ign on (which runs the pump), not needing engine running? Any fuel found at the bowl lid in either a leaking hose or the overflow vent (float valve not sealing) or possibly the bowl lid gasket.

Yes, just make  sure everything is tight and  dry before you switch  on then check for leaks.
