Mates,

I'm keen on replacing my muffler.  It's aftermarket center mount and has a hole.  Thing is, it's welded to the silencer directly.  It's for a 1275 but my Mini is a 92 998 w/ a Weber 44.  Muffler sounds great and car runs great.  Car is a 92 so it has a cat.  Exhaust systems are VERY expensive here in Japan, so I'm keen on getting a used one, and would prefer stainless, and I just came across this (great price and style I want): https://www.mercari....s/m45685714568/

Questions:

First, no difference between auto and MT exhaust systems, right?  Also the sensor hole seems like it is perhaps plugged in the pic.  If not, I can just plug it, no?  I don't need it for inspection for my year's Mini here.

Second, seems like the exhaust hanger is on the wrong side...they sell this hanger to mount before the muffler (https://www.minispor...ng-bracket.html) since the muffler itself has a hanger but seems like the opposite side.  My old muffler had the single rubber square block type hanger.  What I was thinking was just use it, and just use this (https://sophies-mini.com/3897.html) and a U clip to hang in the center and just don't use the bracket (perhaps just cut it off).

Third, seems like cats for 1275s and cats for 998s are all the same cat, so should attach at the cat w/ no prob, right?  Any special gasket sealant for exhausts?  I have some for valve cover gaskets.  That work?

Fourth, this system is 50mm from cat back.  However, my current set up is 31mm at the cat to the silencer, and then after the silencer it steps up to 48mm and attaches to the muffler.  Will this affect the way the car runs significantly?  Will i need a carb adjust?  Or will it be super loud?  Currently, it's a bit loud but I like that.  Perhaps that's the hole in the muffler that is making it so loud.  The hole isn't THAT big though.  I just was hoping for a similar sound (single box sound).  Unfortunately, the seller doesn't know if the muffler is single or double, but I figured that the big increase in size and having a straight pipe instead of the silencer will increase sound regardless of if it's double.

Last, I dunno what the hell that mount is after the muffler.  Looks like it was broken or cut off.  Mine currently has the two round rubber mounts mounted horizontal on the frame, and then there is a flat circular bracket (how can I describe...kinda shaped like a lollipop?) that wraps around the tail pipe, and has a single piece that comes up with a hole that attaches to a horizontal bracket spanning across the two rubber mounts w/ a single bolt.  I was thinking to simply nix that, and use the same U clip and (https://sophies-mini.com/3897.html) hanger instead and hopefully the current broken off (but welded to the tailpipe) original mount isn't in the way.

What do you guys think?  Trying to save a bit of cash.

Cheers in advance for any advice?
