Hi I am doing a full engine rebuild on my mini. I am currently running dellortto 45 with kent 544cam and MSE6 head producing 86bhp with a very worn engine. The plan is to put in a kent 266 cam. But I whats wondering whats the best carb set up twin HS4/H4/HIF4/HIF38/HIF6? Or shall I just keep the dellorto. Thank you

HIF44 would be my choice.

HIF44-1/2 the number of components to maintain, no carb synch issues and good for up to 100 HP.

You can definitely keep the Dellorto and retune if necessary

Twin 1.5” or a single 1.75” SU would be good options too

At the end of the day you’ll probably get much the same power using any of the choices, so just pick whichever one you can tune and you want on your car

Personally for my Mk1 I’ve been running a Dellorto 40 on a period manifold. I’ve tried some twin HS2 and I’m working on some twin H4 carbs. I just think they look cool, there’s no reason other than that. It’s not the most practical or sensible option, but that’s not why I have a mini

Twin hs2 if you feel like a challenge with real results at the finish line. Twin hs4 might give a bit more flexibility.

When I bought the car it has a hif44 but the acceleration was abit delayed. The dellorto I have is great but I want to go for a mk1 single speedo and I cannot do that with the caeb box. Now that doin a full rebuild and changing cam from a kent 544 to a kent 266 cam I was thinking of maybe going for a twin hs4 set up. But I have never have never experienced what they are like. I'm trying to aim for more torque if possible.

An SU carb will never have the same snappy throttle response as a Dellorto/Weber

There are some shorter 3.75” manifolds that will fit with a standard firewall and centre speedo. My car has a 90 degree speedo adapter so that you can fit a filter as well

More information on the 3.75” manifolds and where are they available?
Thanks

Loads of Weber/Dellorto manifolds on MiniSpares.

Failing that, Google.

I use a Redline manifold which is part # 12-3005

That manifold with a 90 degree speedo adapter (from a Rover 3500) and a ramflo air filter all fit in

Maniflow also makes a short one

Might just stay with the dellortos but one of the reasons I wanted to put twin su was that I can connect the crank vents to it. How have you routed the crank vents?

In the photo above I had a filter on the clutch breather. The tappet cover breather goes through a catch can then into the air filter. The ramflo filter comes with a 1/2" port
