ive a proper chinesium one from ebay, and i use them often at work with an expensive gun. the only difference in the finished insert is the amount you pull on it. if it jams you pulled too hard on the insert.

Get yourself one of these

Slightly off topic, but is this one good for refitting the standard plastic wheel arches that were rivited? As I'm heard they are tricky to fit

It's tricky whichever rivets gun you use.
I like the one linked as it's easy to control and doesn't jump when it breaks the pin.
Also, it was one of the few I could find that pulls the large rivetts used in modern VAG cars on door fittings etc.

Don't use lazy tongs, these things for the uninitiated can cause more harm than good. And after watching one engineer use them on one of my old VW's riveting a door inner cover back on just cemented how crap they are.
I use a pair of Mac Tools riveting pliers and have put down 3/16th Cherry's with them, not ideal but they will do the job. For standard Tucker rivets then they will lay these down all day long.
Air rivet guns are fine but you need a compressor. If you have some money floating around then Cherry Aerospace do a hand riveter that works extremely well.https://www.cherryae...oduct/insttools

I like Rivet-nuts (aka Nutserts) for things like the wheel arches. You do not even need a tool as they can be easily set using just a nut & bolt threaded into the rivet nut, then winding down the nut to draw the rivet nut til fully compressed. Can be had in Alu or stainless. Either should be fine for the low load wheel arches.

Thanks guys. I've ordered the one that Ben_O linked too, looks like it will do the job. Thanks Ben.
