Gday everyone . I seem to be having a problem with the hubs/drive flange on a 1972 mk3 with drums up front.
I'm putting spacer drums all round with extended wheel lugs. Back ones went on fine. However in the front. One hub drive flange is impossible to remove. It just won't free..and on the other side the hub drive flange came off fine however it won't go back on. It looks like there is some sort of washer/spacer between both bearings that is loose and dropping down? Any ideas would be most welcome

You need to position it correctly and maybe use some grease to help it stay there.

oh and if these spacers are the ones I think they are. Please remove them and destroy them.

they cause more damage than anything else. Oh and your tyres will most likely catch the wings.

Sorry my bad. I should have clarified they are spacer drums....backs came off fine. No issues. Just the fronts are being a female dog

If you have the CVs removed from the Hubs, you can put something clean in from the inside to hold the wheel bearing spacer up until you get the drive flange in past it. If I can suggest, while you are in there, might be an opportunity to clean and re-grease the bearings.

I'd say the side you can't get apart, the drive flange and possibly the wheel bearings maybe karput. What's likely occurred here is that the bearings have worn (or the big nut in the CV wasn't done up tight enough) and so with it turning + the weight of the car on it, cornering etc, the inner races of the bearing has worn ridges in the drive flange, that either side of the bearings have burred up. Sometimes you can get them off with a bearing puller, but I've had some that needed to be pressed apart. They can need a bit of a wrestle.

Thanks again for your help spider.
With the one that's stuck I tried getting it off with a puller but the CV just moves inside the drive flange so i have nothing to pull against.
It sounds like both hubs need to come off and bearings done.
