Morning all,

I thought I'd give my mini a new set of shock absorbers, cones and convert to hi-lo. Simple enough I thought.....

The actual of fitting these was relatively simple and overall had no issues (although I couldn't get the 1 of the 2 screws in for the upper arm support shaft plate in as limited access, that should be fine?) but in doing so I've some how managed to get a fuel leak while doing the rear.

Following the process in the Haynes, I rested the tank on the boot floor thinking that there would be no issue with this. Next day I smelt petrol and found the booted floor filled with and leaking through to the floor....(not the best time to waste petrol either!).

I've never had issues with fuel leak before so my only conclusion is that resting it on the boot floor has caused this. Are there ways to repair after checking for leaks or it is worth buying a new tank?

I've now added another job to my list of winter projects (new loom, small bodywork repairs, fix heating fan etc)

The mini I have is a '92 Italian Job special edition.

Most likely flexing the rubber pipe, that was probably on its last legs, has caused it to split.

Agree - most likely the pipe.  Also - less likely - but have a good inspection of the bottom - in older tanks, pinhole rust inside the tank is working its way through, and only a small disturbance would start it weeping.

I had the same last year, moved the tank and the pipe had split, i didnt notice it until the next day when the garage stunk of petrol and the boot was full of fuel.

I had my fuel tank puncture due to the rear shock bottoming out on a pothole, there’s a vid on youtube of it happening aha.
