Hey guys... I would love to just open and turn on my Mini with a single key. Is there information on how to do this?

Ive seen people posting that they have this in their for sale ads, but I cant get any data on how you do this.

Having 3 keys is annoying, especially since I am doing electric door locks.

Unless you can get a small ignition switch or huge door and boot locks I do not see it being possible. On early cars without column mounted switches it could possibly be done by suitably rebuilding the lock tumblers. The adverts could possibly mean identically keyed doors and boot but not ignition?Steve..

Simpler to do remote central locking.

With keyless start?I personally like having lots of keys.It takes up some of my day finding the right bunch and then more time to find the right key every time I want to use one of my cars,Steve..

Never heard of a single key conversion. But I have heard of people doing mods so they only need one key. Very different things.

Should definitely be possible with early cars (Mk1, Mk2 and early Mk3s) which don't have a steering lock since they all use the same type of key, or as others suggest you could fit remote central locking so no key required at all for the doors. Personally I find it to be a bit of fun having a different key for everything - one for my driver's door, one for the ignition, one for the petrol cap and one for the boot

Hmmm. Isn't that how they all are? My Riley Elf has one key for door, boot and ignition.

That's how they'd have left the factory (not counting the later cars with a bigger separate ignition key because of the steering lock), but I imagine a large number of Minis have had new doors, locks, handles etc fitted without matching the barrels over the years, and the number of keys has grown accordingly!

Yup my mk1 as well and you can buy 4 lock barrel sets with a single key still.

I like how the top of the thread is "Impossible" and the bottom of the thread is " Isnt that how they come from the factory?".

But yeah, right now, my doors and boot open with the same key, then I have the gas cap (which I am getting rid of) and then the engine. I am installing keyless entry, so I would like to just have the one ignition key also open the door locks, so if something happens to the keyless entry I can still get in.

It is a 1973 Innocenti Mini, MK3 style. I do have a bigger key in the ignition, so I dont think that I can just use the same keys, but then again, I dont really know waht Im doing anyway.

I would like to just have the one key. Are there links to the 4 lock barrels?
