Hey y'all, returning to the classic mini after ~20 year absence.

My wife and I bought a 1996 SPI with the intention to join The Deutschland rally earlier this month.

I didn't manage to take part due to a needed surgery, but my wife (who was rather dubious at the car selection), completed the rally with her Dad as co-pilot.

She's now a mini convert.

Looks like they had a good time going by the smiles. What's the rally format, are there target times?

I would like to do the timed rally on normal roads. Are there many?

Here's a link to my wife's blog about it:

They had a great time, but the rally was not the format we were expecting.

We had expected an endurance rally with a tulip road book, Monte Carlo style. I'd even fitted a Terratrip into the car.

Well, it's a rally in the loosest sense of the word... it's more like a fun run/treasure hunt all over Germany.

You get a road book but not with tulip symbols, it's a wordy description where the checkpoints are each day.

You have to figure out a route from your maps.

You stop at the checkpoints and take a photo. There are bonus goals to get extra points.

There are normally (pre-covid) many endurance style rallies all over the place in EU and UK... France apparently has a lot.

There are often restrictions on the car age and modification.

This particular company (SAC) do not make rallies like that.

We are planning to join one early next year, got some tips from another couple on there who also were expecting this type of rally (the ones in the very nice volvo p1800 if you look on the blog)
