Hello everyone, could someone please help with a problem i have with shutting and securing the boot lid on my mk2

mini.  I have just had some major body and paintwork completed and have just put a new boot seal on to my boot lid

with the proper clips, however when i then tried to close the lid i found nothing would line up and the seal does not sit in the

recess on the car?  also the boot latch sits too low and will not engage on the body of the boot gap?

I am presuming these are a pain to fit with a new seal..........i have tried to adjust the hinges but makes no difference, does

anyone have any ideas?

Cheers Andy

The seal will seat on the edge, not in the cavity. I also installed this seal on my MK3, it was hard to close, but the seal will compress a little by time. Then I bought the seal which fits to the edge instead of the bonnet lid. It's slightly better, but not perfect.

The Minispares boot seal has good reports on the Mk1 Forum in link below but many other door and boot seals on the market are too thick or hard which means you can't close the doors or boot lid properly!

You can use the later boot lid seal which fits to the body flange instead of the lid but it does not look so good on an earlier Mini....

I had exactly the same problem with fitment, my MPI has a rear MK1 light conversion so I thought I'd try and keep the back end looking older. The boot seal with clips that fit to the boot lid itself (as you've used) were way off getting the boot lid to close without stressing the boot lid or bottom of the rear panel. I considered elongating the bracket holes to help with adjustment but decided against it. I ended up purchasing a boot seal that fits over the flange on the rear panel that the lid closes into (as later minis). I still had to trim that slightly to get a good fit, all water tight now so worthwhile considering.

You might have a better chance of the closing catch catching when the boot lid fits snug in its hole.

MACGREGOR British Car Parts, Ontario, Canada makes all manner of door, boot and hatchback seals. I installed his boot seals on my MKIII mini and the wife’s MG1100, both are high quality and fit perfectly. Give him a try.

Edit;  The one that I installed fits on the flange of the boot opening, not on the boot lid.
