Hi all

So i had a split in my existing rubber fuel line and bought a couple of meters of new line

http://www.minispare...|Back to search

but i am struggling to attach it to the nipple on the tank and the one under on the chassis.

Comparing the 2, the older fuel line looks a lot bigger, making it easier to attach to the car.

Have i bought the right pipe or shall i get one with a bigger bore hole in the middle?

Thanks

Nick

You've bought 5.6mm, fuel hose would be 1/4inch which is nearer 6.5mm (Edit 6.35mm to be exact)

You can try softening the new hose in some hot water, I just fill a mug with a boiled kettle and dip the hose into it, you'll get a few goes if needed.

The stuff you've bought isn't the wrong hose, just the wrong ID but might still fit and there's no harm in trying

Thanks for the reply.  I have used a small head gun to try and soften it enough to get on and although one end is on, its only just on.   I am not 100% happy with it.

I will look at some additional fuel lines then to get a better fit.  Thanks for the reply!

Sorted.  Bought some more fuel lines.  Hopefully that will fix it.

Thanks!

I did this job a few days ago and had the same problem
I opened up the line with a conical drift
It took a bit of time, but it was a good work out
I don’t understand why they specify 1/4” fuel line when that nipple is much larger, though it did slide on the steel pipe readily
Replacement pipes are on sale, but they are expensive

I had the same issue a few months back on my resto.  As above, sellers list their pipe as 1/4inch, but when it arrives most of it is 5.6mm which is too small.  Always worth checking.  I've also found that whilst 5.6mm is too small 6.5mm feels a bit loose. My understanding is it's fine for the pressure it's being used for.

Minispares are selling this 5.6mm stuff as 1/4" at the moment.  Found it wouldn't fit on the fuel tank, but would fit on the metal fuel line and float bowls.
