Cast iron manifold isn’t doing you any favours.

Was thinking of using an adjustable engine steady arm

1983 1275, South African mini

Does anyone know if the alloy intake has a different angle and if it positions the the carb higher

So it has always been a 1275? If so, and I don’t know about the SA subframe changes, then I don’t think the UK 1275 engine steady will help. So an adjustable one could help. Never measured the differences on the inlets.

TBF that filter assy on that set up will bring you nothing.

Yes always been a 1275

And yes you're right, probably wouldn't do much performance wise, but wanted the induction noise

WI’ll not help noise. For that you need to refit the original filter housing with the elbow bolted into the carb. That helps deflect the noise and also recuses the standing wave pattern in the induction port.

the standard housing with a KN filter element (and some add holes in the casing) is better than any of the pancake or cone filters. The MED set up won’t be bad but will do nothing for the noise.

Agreed. I have that air cleaner on my HIF44 but have the Mini Spares alloy intake and LCB exhaust. Its a tight fit but it works. Also elected to use a 90 degree adapter for the speedo cable.

Edit; I always forget to mention that I use the 90 degree speedo adapter on the center mounted speedo used on the MKI/MKII minis. Never used them on the ones mounted in front the driver.

Need an angled spacer to tilt the carb up for some cleance.

The privious owner of my car had cut the speedo opening a tad to get a filter / old alloy inlet to fit.

With a minispare inlet and and a HIF44 and  filter there is space as the inlet brings the carb up a bit.

I had to go to a 90 degree adapter as well after my cable snapped about 50 miles later. I don't think you would need one if you have the speedo behind the steering wheel though, if I remember correctly it goes through the bulkhead in a different location. The filter is definitely a tight fit though.
