I am in the process of replacing the inner and outer sills on TJ's Mini. It's been a long time since I worked on the car but I'm back on it now. For a while anyway.

My question is what stops outside air from traveling up through the flutes of the outer sill and past the inner sill support piece? There is quite a gap between that piece and the outer sheet metal.

I sure hope I didn't make a major mistake because the left side is all done.

Thanks, Bill

Looks about right to me too. There is nothing to stop air getting past but I dont think it's much of an issue? Can't be a bad thing to let the sills breathe in my opinion.

If I had to guess mine would be about 6-8mm. When I installed the rear door cards I found this covered up most of the gap and makes it look much better

Thanks guys! I forgot about the rear door cards because this car came to use without them. It was a."rust free" car. We didn't have to pay for the rust.

Thanks again!

Pretty sure my car had some foam in that gap, however I didn’t refit it when restoring
