Hi all,
I am looking to find my old mini 1275 GT from when I was younger, I regret selling it as I loved the car but at the time it was the right thing to do.
I know this is a long shot but does any body know how I can go about tracking it down?
Reg is… JVW 530V.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated :)

Currently SORN by the looks of things:

Last logbook issue was July 2021 so it’s still around!

Good luck with the search!

Thank you, I saw that information as well.
That only encouraged me more to try find it.

I reckon it will be pretty impossible though :(

Apparently a company calling itself Car Check can give owner history for the sum of £7.99, I have never used the site but it might be worth giving it a try.

Good luck

Might be worth spending the £8 and see if it does tell me anything 🤔

Officially under the GDPR rules DVLA and companies are not allowed to reveal owner details if they have access to the database.

It used to be possible to get the previous owner history for a vehicle registered in your name from the DVLA for a £5 fee but sadly even that was stopped when the GDPR rules came in.

You could try asking Miniworld magazine to put a request out on their 'readers letters/emails' page with a photo if you have one, they often do.

You won’t get owner history, as Mab says not possible now

Are there any companies doing the reverse? i.e. if you agree to release your details, to send them to the current owner with a request to contact you (for a fee of course...!)

Whether they would contact you or not is of course is up to them and no way you can do anything if they chose not to, but I think it could be explained to them to be in their interest as for most of us its a desire to buy our first mini back and with that would likely come a "reasonably" higher offer than they might expect to get for a SORNed off road car probably in a bad state of repair.

There's a business idea there for someone (as I guess the DVLA won't take it on) - maybe I could try to start a business but no idea how you get access to the database

P.S I tried the  DVLA contact thing for my first mini (OBM841P just in case anyone knows it!!!) and got the stock "sorry cant help"  - they didn't say there wasn't a current owner but maybe they just send the stock answer for convenience?

Might be worth changing your topic title to include the reg number.

That way it can be seen by anyone scrolling through that isn't interested in clicking onto the thread.

You never know, the current owner might be a member

Companies/organisations like Solicitors, Insurance, Car parking fine companies, HPI checks/motor traders, etc can have paid access to the DVLA database if their business justifies tracing vehicle ownership and they agree to observe the rules and regulations under data protection, etc but I doubt tracing owners of classic cars would have much chance of being approved....

Yes I was aware that various people could trace it for "legal" reasons.

I can't see much harm in sending the RO of a car a nice letter asking them to contact Mr XYZ (if they choose) and illustrating the possible benefits  - whether anything could come of it would only be at the behest of the RO.

They wouldn't be releasing the details of the owner only your details TO the owner if you agree (you waive your GDPR right)

I had a brilliant idea years ago about starting an internet estate agency, I never did as I wasn't motivated enough and within a couple of years I was too late - anyone want to help me with this idea?
