I just installed a new engine earth strap and am wondering if I can get validation on whether the placement is ok. The old one was about half the length and went from the same place on the body, to another wok bolt almost under the started motor. With this longer strap, running to a different wok bolt seems to fit better.

Since much of it is basically sitting on the wok itself, I think it should be fine but also would like some validation from some of you with way more knowledge that I have.

Thanks in advance.

I'd be tempted to move it round to the next bolt on the right to give a little more slack.

Is that a nautilus air horn I see :proud:

I think it is good assume you cleaned the contacting surface from rust/paint before screw it to the inner wing. I would apply some paint after fitting. A good earth prevents from eletrical issues.

Functionally it will be fine and is unlikely to get trapped anywhere it shouldn't.  However I would personally either shorten it or find a shorter one - appropriate length cables are always better and neater.

Yes it is a Nautilus air horn. I have it on there as a bit of a safety measure, I’m case I am out in the roads and someone doesn’t seem me on their blind spot, etc.

I hear you on the length. I would have preferred something shorter as well but this is all I could find in short notice. Would a short section of battery cable work just as well? If so, I will probably run with this longer strap for the short term and then think about another setup later on.

Personally I'd move it to the block. Alloy isn't a fantastic conductor.

A length of battery cable will work fine.

Agreed, but then the main high current draw item that needs a good earth is also bolted to the alloy (ie the starter).

I run two - one to the starter motor bolts and one to the front engine steady bracket bolt

What gauge battery cable is typical for these cars? Is it 4 gauge or 2-ought? Looks like I can get all the supplies easily online to make my own so I might as well make a fun project out of it.

I just put a new battery ground cable in as well and it is a bit longer than I’d like, so I could make new for everything at the same time.

I’d use 20mm2 which I think is AWG #4

(00 or 2/0 is huge isn’t it?)
