I've been following a chap called Matt (Urchfab) on facetube for sometime now who specialises in fabrication and a bit of everything else thrown in for good measure.

The first build I started following of his was called 'The Mongrel'. Its a ford 100e shell mated to MX5 running gear and lower chassis/shell and it was a mega amount of restoration before he even started on the fabrication!

Not quite on Bad Obsession's level of bracketry but he's bloody good at fabrication.

Anyway now that project is finished (not that they ever are) he has now begun on a Mini which he's modifying to race specs and intends on competing. Thought it was worth a mention for those who enjoy watching classic Mini and fabrication videos.

He's also after Mini parts/spares especially a 1275 engine if anyone has got one going (for a fee of course). Contact details on YouTube/his website).

Loved the mongrel build, I was excited to see how he'd approach a mini. Not sure about the steering rack reinforcement as I've seen KAD add tabs to the rack and bolt it directly to the front subframe on race cars. Seems a simpler approach. Still exited to see the custom things he comes up with.

He did a great job on the Mongrel, especially painting it after he was let down by that other bloke.

Yeah that plate does seem a bit overkill but I suppose it's only going to make it safer, certainly looks the part!

10/10 for that roll cage although still the rear section to finish.

I thought the same, Minis have been prepped for racing for years and I've never seen a plate like that. But there again he's semi sponsored by a CNC laser cutting machine firm and he probably needs to use the machine in his build videos. If I was building a race car from scratch, I would just look at Owens Fabrication FB page and take inspiration from there.

All the front running Miglias are adding ballast to reach the weight limit, so some strengthening low down isn't going to cause any issues. I don't see any benefit over Endaf's approach though.
