Found this on YouTube - wonder who messed this up......  I think the "No overtaking" sign is probably similar/same in many countries - of course the red and black cars will be transposed if you drive on the right (wrong!) side as opposed to this for driving on the left

(For our Non-UK members, the correct sign/answer for  "No Stopping" is actually the red cross on blue background)

All that makes as much sense to me as our "Men at work" sign:

Looks more like someone trying to pull Pacmans tongue out  :-)

After taking the minimum number of driving lessons did my first (& only) driving Test in 1989  -failed every Highway Code question, made every mistake going (stalled on the hill start, pulled away in 2nd gear etc) & still passed!!!

Nothing dodgy, no bribes or nepotism involved, just corrected every mistake instantly & perfectly.

Week before (trainee nurse) girlfriend & I were the 2nd car to stop at a RTA - thankfully 1st car was a Doctor, unfortunately driver dead & child died 3 days later. Drove on test day so safely & with so much attention to the road that the instructor didn't feel able to fail me.

Perhaps attending a RTA should be part of the Driving Test, then newly qualified drivers wouldn't drive like complete & utter :xxx:

Yes, it should! There was a problem with young people driving modified cars dangerously locally some years back, the emergency services got together and staged a serious injury RTA to which the police invited all the modified cars they stopped. It was very realistic, including cutting a 'victim' out of a car with fake blood etc. Things did quieten down after that so hopefully the message was taken on.

Most of our road signs seem to make sense, particularly for English speakers.

https://mutcd.fhwa.d...02084/index.htm

What they have done locally to supposedly reduce speeds that makes no sense is that instead of lowering the speed limit on multi lane roads, the lanes have been narrowed from 12 feet to 11 or 10 feet with a bicycle path on one side and increased median width on the other. The result is that people continue to speed and since everybody drives huge pickups and SUV's with very large side mirrors (the width of the vehicle and mirrors is almost as wide as the lane), they are weaving all over the road as they overtake and try to avoid the vehicle being passed.

I passed my test in 1986 so thought I'd give the theory test a go on YouTube to see how I would fare - that's when I found this mistake (although I guess it was the YouTuber's mistake as its not the official DVSA stuff, but I assume the questions are valid/similar to the official ones)

If the questions are the same/similar, then many of them are common sense I would say, but also many of them are those things a sensible, courteous driver would normally do, however I agree with itsaminithing that these days there are plenty of people who drive like complete @rseholes either because they seem to think they have more right to be on the road than you or they are so dumb they don't know or care how bad their driving is.

I have made mistakes driving (I guess most people have even if they don't like to admit it) but hopefully I have managed to convey my apologies to the other driver when I have cocked-up. In those cases, many of the folks from my comment above just don't give a sh!t, or as mentioned, they are so dumb they don't even realise how bad they have driven

From the link provided by xrocketengineer - I don't know if that is an exhaustive list of all US signs - if so, I note the US signs don't appear to have very many "prohibitive" (or as they are called "regulatory") signs and can't see one for "No overtaking" - maybe it's not a thing in the US?

Inadvertently mixed my metaphors a bit  - can you be an @rsehole if you don't give a sh!t....

For that specific case, there might be a sign for a "two lane road" that specifically says "No Passing Zone". However those roads have a white continuous centerline to separate the lanes. The "no passing zone" would also have continuous yellow line to the right of the white line. Another yellow line to the left of the white line means that the oncoming lane can not pass in that area either.
