Main Bearing Issue

Ordered main bearings based on year (1983) and only looked at block side that have side tags.
Now I've just realised I needed 3 side tag and 3 center tag bearings.
Could I file down the tag and use them?
It's just a bit of a pain ordering anything for the UK to Ireland...

Personally I'd carefully grind/file the groove in the caps.

That will be the plan then!
Would you keep the tags on the same sides or do them opposite?

Same side, then if there is a future rebuild there is no confusion about which way round the cap goes - tang to tank will always be the same.
Just make sure the grooves are deep enough and wide enough - you don't want them being a little too small and pushing the shell into the crank. At the same time, you don't wan them too wide that the shell can walk sideways. Take your time and use and old shell to keep checking.

Or just reorder the correct bearings.

Or just reorder the correct bearings.
Yes, that seems more sensible thing to do.
Considering my impatience I think it's best to reorder correct bearings.
I can get on with my gearbox rebuild while waiting patiently..

I've modded the caps to take them in several engines, its fairly simple with a file or dremel.

To close off this topic, I re-ordered the correct bearings, 3 center, 3 side tags.
The side tags that came with new set are identical to the 6 from the other set, barring a code on the back which was the same code on the 3 side/3 center and a different code on the 6 side tag bearings.
