What is the section circled on the photo used for?

Can I just cut this section of to clean up in the engine bay?  Will I miss it?

I have the same on mine, i think i've read somewhere that its a damper for the clutch as fitted to metros and that its not required for minis...   ...but wait for somebody to confirm before getting the grinder out.

I found it was a useful place to tie hoses back to!

Through the middle 'hole' My Mpi has a grommet and earth cable.
So it supports the earth cable.

That's been added sometime in its life. This isn't from factory.

I thought it fitted lower down and supported the battery cable with a grommet?Steve..sorry I'd not see it is one part.

I have the same bracket fitted to a 1990 carb. Its definitely a factory fit bracket. From the pictures I took before engine was removed it doesn't seem to be used for anything. There is another smaller bracket mounted on the transfer casing closer to the starter motor that has a grommet used to support the earth cable.

Thanks for the comments.

I will probably use the technical advice and "lop it off".

Its the bracket that holds the Live Cable, and has a grommet over the cable to hold it in the bracket. Its to stop the live cable rubbing against the engine and shorting out......

I don't think I've ever seen the live cable routed anywhere near there by the factory, its always come along the subframe side member.

As said above  - that design of slave cylinder bracket is designed for the clutch damper as fitted to Metros, no doubt in production they used the same bracket on Minis to save costs (or because of part shortages) but the extra bit is not used.

This is the battery cable bracket:
