Just started stripping my newly-acquired 1275 A+. As expected, it looks like it needs rebore, likely a crank regrind too. Not planning any major upgrades to it - just rebuild it to a good serviceable state.

Question is, what's the best way forward? I'm happy to do the strip and rebuild. So ideally (to save £££s) I'm looking for someone reputable locally (or failing that someone who works by courier) to do the machining or supply exchange parts. Much much prefer an A-series specialist.

Who'd be recommended, please? I'm in farthest south-west Wales, so a bit out in the sticks.

is it not worth buying an engine or gearbox or head from the many specialists that out there? They come with a guarantee.

Or do you want to keep the original cars engine, is it original?

Hello Pembs Mini Club :-) I saw your entourage at 2021's Round-Pembs event. Didn't have a Mini then (I came in my '71 Spartan).

Buying an engine/box and just dropping it in would be an option. But a reputably rebuilt engine and box is going to cost a fortune.

I'm in the luxury position of having plenty of workshop space and not needing the engine in a hurry because the car has a serviceable 998 in it already. So I can take my time and enjoy a DIY rebuild. But there are some things - especially the machining - which have to be taken to a pro.

So the person I'm seeking will be the flexible kind who knows A-series engines but is happy to do only the bits I can't manage for myself.
