Could somebody please shed some light on this problem i'm having with my wheel alignment after a lengthy restoration.

I have read somewhere that you have to centralise your steering when getting the car back on its wheels?

my wheels are not quite in line....any thoughts please? thanks  Andrew.

Track rod adjustment in either side
Possibly tie rod arms

What setup have you got and what has been adjusted on suspension and steering during restoration?

Hello,

older steering racks had a centralising hole where you could put in a 6mm allen key through the rubber covered hole in the passenger floor panel. When the allen key could be pushed through the steering was centralised and the toe could be adjusted.

On later racks I could not find the centralising hole so you must apply a different route: Place two plastic bags under each wheel/tyre. Turn the steering wheel to one side then completely to the other side while counting the revolutions of the steering wheel. Divide the number by two and turn back the steering wheel this calculated number. This should be the centre. Then go on adjusting the toe as before.

The plastic bags make it easier to turn the tyres on the spot, better if you place two pieces of flat wood under the bags. Better still, of course, are turntables, but who has them in their garage?

Hope this is of some help to you.

Kind regards,

Helmut

As said centre the rack first and then adjust to get the correct toe.If one tie rod is much different to its partner I would look carefully at components and assembly.Steve..
