Hey Just wanted t see what filters people are using with a 3M Half mask for Welding?

It seems so many filters are available.... from research recommendations are to use a P3 - 2138 Filter

Any advice or knowledge welcome

Thanks Kev

I must admit to having never worn a face mask for welding as its only a hobby and not full time. I do use a full face reactive welding and also make sure the area is well ventilated.

I'm currently following Cutting Edge Machining Australia and Kurtis uses a full face powered filter mask for his welding, but he does serious welding on properly heavy duty items. Not Mickey Mouse 0.9mm thick steel, think heavy duty bulldozer, earth moving equipment type machinery. Very impressive stuff.

I tend not to bother either unless I'm doing lots of welding over a prolonged period of time.

In that case, I use a paper filter mask with a charcoal filter as it is suitable and fits nicely under the welding shield.

Cheers

I’ve taken to wearing a 3M 6503QL half mask (the quick release feature is great) and 2138 filters for all grinding/sanding work and a lot of my mig welding.

With welding I find it makes the most difference when I’m doing a lot of high amperage welding on big thick stuff but I’ve taken to wearing it when I’m doing longer runs of plug welding on cars as well.

I had noticed at the end of a week of bigger fabrication jobs I’d end up with a fairly sore throat and coughing a fair bit but since I’ve got the mask I’ve not had any issues. I’m probably just on the verge of justifying a proper Adflo system but for a home gamer and a half mask and 2138 filters are well worth it.

I think a box of ten filters and the half mask is about £140 which is a darn sight cheaper than a new pair of lunges!!!

I also now wear a half mask for any sanding or welding, I just use a spray mask which seems to work well.

personally i would buy an airfed mask, at work i use one of these, https://www.thewelde...lding-mask.html and at home i have this which is also great for grinding and other dirty smelly jobs. https://www.craigmor...-welding-helmet they aren't the cheapest but if you are restoring the whole car then over time the exposure could be enough to damage your lungs.
