Please could I ask your opinion of the scratch to my 1275cc engine block surface as per image below ? you can't really feel it if you run your nail over it but just wanted to check if this will cause an issues ? I'm due to give the block surface a final clean  prior to head gasket install and was wondering if I go over it with some fine wet and dry ?

I don't think that will cause you any issue at all.

Thanks for the reply, surely you need to clean a head and block surface before installing a head gasket ? I'm talking about a extra fine wet and dry paper ( 2000)  used on the surface not a grit sandpaper ?

It's on the other side of the fire rings and far enough away from the coolant port not to be an issue :)

On the second picture is that pitting on the fire ring surface on the narrow part between the bores ?

If so I`d be getting the block face surfaced.

I wouldn`t worry about the scratch

If you are concerned with deck blemishes, use some spray on Hylomar on the gasket.
