I noticed my front right wheel has a slight rumbling/rough noise when rotating in air and also play when holding 12 and 6. Nothing on 9 and 3 thats fine.

I checked ball joints and tightened them up so they seem fine.

I changed new wheel bearing.

The rough noise is still there and there is still play at 12 and 6.

The only other thing I can think of is possibly cv joint?

Any ideas

thanks

When you did the bearing what torque did you put he hub nutt to?

Also did you grease it all up and have you checked the cv joi t has grease in that as well?

Trust you shimmed and pumped sufficient grease in the ball joints...

Hi yes.

I took the calliper off and there was still play.

I did the hub nut to 150 foot pound with flat washer then I redone the nut to 150 again once wheel was back on,

Its a 1991 mini auto so I think 150 is about right.

To be honest I don't know about the grease in the CV joint As I never actually peeled back the boot. I know the boot does feel quite floppy but not sure if this is normal.

And yes reshimmed the ball joint so nice drag and not floppy.

Have someone hold the footbrake on hard and repeat the test.If it still moves it is not the wheel bearing. If it stops it moving then it likely is bearing, hub or incorrect assembly.Steve..

You"think" its the right figure. Sorry but that is one way to ensure an early failure. It needs to be correct.

So i take it you have a Haynes manual to hand??

A Rumbling sound suggests wheel bearings to me.

Held the brakes and yes the play stopped. Could it be dodgy wheel bearing? Any chance it could be CV joint?

CV joints tend to click especially when on full lock either way when worn.

And yes rumbling points to a bearing.

When clamped up the CV joint is held tight to the bearing. If you took out all its balls it would not cause play. The bearing or hub or both are faulty.Bad luck,Steve..

Just adding to this. A rumbling bearing may or may not have play, they do eventually develop play.

It could well be that what you are hearing is the bearing and what you are feeling is play in the ball joint(s).
